New Zealand's economic resilience and strategic future are shaped by decisions made across every part of society, from boardrooms and government agencies to tech companies and community organisations. The forces bearing on those decisions have shifted significantly. Geopolitical risk, technological disruption and changing trade dynamics are reshaping the environment in which leaders operate, across every sector and at every level.
The New Zealand Security Dialogues bring together senior leaders from business, government, and society in small, private settings to work through these challenges. Each dialogue is conducted under the Aspen moderation model - frank, structured and off the record - and is designed for candid discussion on the issues that don't always surface in formal settings.
Conversations are framed around four questions that run across all discussions:
What global developments are most likely to reshape New Zealand's strategic environment over the next decade?
Where do the greatest vulnerabilities or strategic dependencies exist?
What leadership trade-offs are emerging for organisations and policymakers?
How might different future scenarios play out, and what responses or solutions should be considered?
A series of dialogues is planned across a range of topics, including agriculture and biosecurity, technology and digital infrastructure, energy and critical infrastructure, tourism and global mobility, and high-value exports and advanced manufacturing. Themes and topics will evolve as the programme develops.
Insights from each dialogue inform the Regional Security Dialogues and the annual Aspen NZ Security Forum in Queenstown each October.
Participation is by invitation. If you would like to be considered for a future dialogue, or are interested in partnering to support one, we'd like to hear from you.
